A Mindanaoan’s point of view on The Valley Golf Antipolo Controversy

De La Paz Story in Media in Focus

There are 5 parts, so look for the succeeding part after viewing this one

Okay, Since this is a very sensitive issue, I have approved all the comments, but will be filtering them out soon.  I will make it a policy that all those whose voice want to be heard in this post thru their comment should either have a blog or have a valid email, I will contact you thru your email accounts and if I haven’t received any reply from you in at least 2 days, your comment will be deleted.  I have come to realize after reading Juned post last night that comments sometimes influence the readers more than the post.  Thus, I have made this policy. FYI

The Mayor airs his Side

Here’s Ms. Noemi Dado’s post on Multiply about Mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr Mauled a father and son in Valley Golf Antipolo.  I highly respect her as a blogger and as a person, and she blogs with balance and with authority so it’s better you read about it there than me narrating it again and by the way, here’s the first hand account of the daughter Bambee de la Paz in her blog.

As a Mindanaoan or a  resident of Mindanao, what can I say about this as one of the plurk’s posts of an online friend has asked?

I sure do hope all will be well soon.  I want that Justice will prevail so that healing can come in after.  This is an evidence that blogging can be the citizens’ voice in any maltreatment and be able to report any irregularities in any system, either in government or not.

I also do hope that there will be more Mindanaoans who will be blogging soon, just to help also clean our Island’s name. When people who hails from Mindanao are involved in fights or controversies like this, chances are.. there will be some who will say or think of us here in Mindanao as being war freaks.  We are brave, but most of us don’t like war.  You’ve got to live here to see, know and feel what are most of the Muslims, Christians and Lumads’  hearts’ desires.

I pray for this situation to appease, I pray that whatever goodness or blessing in disguise this has in store for everybody, be realized and felt by the greater public very soon.. especially the GOVERNMENT.  You, I mean all of you who are government officials are not anymore untouchables as you think you are, because Filipino Bloggers works like a dream team in helping and protecting each other’s right.

I do want to hear the others side of those who are involved, Pls. tell the truth  because you are not only representing yourselves, you are representing the people of Masiu, Lanao del Sur and also of the entire Mindanao.

thanks for taking a Mindanao perspective. I am also eager to hear their side without them spinning off stories.

Why would Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr, do something so low? He’s a public official with a good record, who was just awarded this august 2008 as “the most outstanding mayor in RP”. There are many inconsistencies in Dela Paz’s stories. Like for instance, on tv he alledgedly accused “Angel Pangandaman” was the one who has beaten him up. Angelo Pangandaman is the mayor’s nephew….how can an 8-year old boy beat up a 56-year old man??
Delfin dela Paz’s arrogance started the fight. It could have been stopped but Delfin dela Paz called his wife and other sons to Valley Golf and threatened Mayor Pangandaman and his company with ice peak and baseball bats. There were a lot of witness aside from the Mayor’s company.
The Dela Paz siblings should be banned from junior golf and all golf courses. They were a flight of two when the club prohibited it because it was a holiday. The Mayor’s company were ahead of the Dela Paz’s, they were a flight of four but the Mayor went to the clubhouse to get something thats why he got left behind. The Mayor told someone to ask Delfin if they can go ahead of them but the Delfin was complaining about “golf etiquette”.
Dela Paz, a flight of two, went ahead and teed off plus hit a mulligan in hole #4 (par 3) without any warning when the flight of Pangandaman was still walking to their balls to putt/pitch their 2nd shots. In hole #5 (par 4), they again teed off without any warning when the Pangandamans & company didn’t even hit their 2nd shots yet. Delfin dela Paz was provoking the Pangandamans, isn’t he? And he’s even complaining of “golf etiquette”?? Anyway, The Pangandamans peacefully proceeded with their game and even told the marshal that the Dela Paz flight can go ahead. But Delfin dela Paz approached the Mayor and shouted “Putang ina mo, hindi mo ba ako kilala? Member ka ba dito? Then, Delfin dela Paz hit the Mayor with an umbrella. The Mayor’s older brother got the umbrella and punched for being so BASTOS. Delfin punched back. Bino dela Paz grabbed a gold club and hit the Mayor. Of course the Pangandamans did fought back. The father of the Mayor was trying to stop the fight and wants to settle it but Delfin kept on provoking the Pangandamans and had not stop shouting and cursing. When the Mayor’s brother tried to ride the golf car with his son, Delfin ran after him with a golf driver. The Pangandamans wanted to leave the Golf Club when another Dela Paz group tried to attack the Pangandamans with baseball bats and an ice peak (as i have said earlier) at the main clubhouse. Thats the time when the Mayor’s bodyguard BLOCKED the Dela Paz’s. The bodyguards were just doing their jobs but they haven’t hurt the attackers. TESTIMONIES FROM THE WITNESSES WILL PROVE THAT THE DELA PAZ CLAN ARE LIARS.

The fighting scene was really long..it may not be complete BUT IT’S THE TRUTH! The Mindanaoans are civilized people. Christians and Muslims may have some conflicts here but WE are respectful people. But if provoked many times, that’s a different story…

I’m not the kind of person who judges people from where they come from. Their place of origin has got nothing to do with the kind of values they have and who they turn-out to be.

I just hope that these people get re-acquainted with their conscience, if do they have any. Being high-ranking government officials doesn’t give them the right to do what they just did to the poor man and his son.

I admire Bambi de la Paz for being brave enough to blog about the whole incident. If my brother and father suffered the same fate, God only knows what I would do to teach these power tripping assholes a lesson they’d never forget.

I sure hope they both rot not only in jail, but also in hell.

  5. Marcelle / Dec 29 2008 10:27 pm

Oh, look, the troll again. Same idiotic argument, different name.

Let’s make this quick. Did Nasser go to a hospital and have his ear nearly torn off?

    No?

Then this discussion is over. You can lie about a lot of things, but video and medical evidence trumps all.

  6. noemi Dado / Dec 29 2008 10:46 pm

april, why bring up Christian and Muslim issue? Didn’t the DAR chief ask “Di mo ba ako kilala?” De la paz doesn’t know him. It is not about religion. It is about bad behavior from a public servant and a child abuse issue at that.

  7. arpee lazaro / Dec 29 2008 11:06 pm

yeah! i read the very same comment in filipino voices!

  8. Ivy Nicanor / Dec 30 2008 12:19 am

this issue is not about religion, we better think of what we’re gonna say so as not to hurt both our Christian and Muslim brothers. we’re all wishing for justice here.

  9. keysi nunez / Dec 30 2008 2:27 am

    Dear April,

How can you say these things? You seem to know a lot of things that others do not know about. Were you there when it happened? Did you participate in the beat down? Why are you bringing up religion and geographic location? Are you looking for a fight? If so, you might want to run a search on BrianB, so you’ll know who you’re up against.

    “Di mo ba kami kilala?”

    LOL.

  10. celinx / Dec 30 2008 3:42 am

april’s hearsay version sounded so ridiculous and now I know why. It’s the story that came out in Abante. Strange how a powerful politician would refuse to answer the Inquirer but place a “detailed” version, by the same witnesses who told Bambee they didn’t see anything, in a tabloid. I thought I would no longer be shocked by the behaviour of local politicians; that this kind of behavior went out with the old generation, replaced by a more humanist, more-informed youth. Sadly, there will always be those who prefer to be the stereotype rather than effect a real enlightened change.

  11. yolynne / Dec 30 2008 6:32 am

You all have the right to your own opinions, There’s a lot of issues here in Mindanao that needs attention but one good thing that came out from all of this is that, MINDANAO is now getting attention.. and the stuff only we know or probably we are concerned about are now out in the open for you to be aware of.

I won’t argue with anybody and I stand with what I say in my blog, you can rant all you want in your own blog to contradict my opinion, it’s your choice, it’s your blog anyway. I know how to mind my own business but I am deeply concerned with my region. Others might have a hard time understanding this and how we think, but I challenge those who question to come here in Mindanao and immerse themselves with the locals so that you may feel and learn the reality of the struggles.

This is not a battle of Religion, this is a battle of every Filipinos right to know what is true and to see justice being served.

I found this blog and would recommend you to read it. http://naijapinoy.wordpress.com/2008/12/29/comment-nasser-pangandaman-jr-the-warlord-of-masiu/

On a light and happy note – Happy New Year to Everybody!

  12. Ducky Paredes / Dec 31 2008 7:31 am

I am glad that some on the blogsphere want to know what really happened and not what they want to believe. It’s tough for the Pangandamans; they’re in government and with the unpopular Gloria Arroyo plus they;re outsiders being from Mindanao and Muslims. Tough but all of that has to be factored in.
Accepted that the beating up was too much — an overkill; but as a Valley golfer, let me just say that the ones who breached etiquette were the De la Paz twosome who even drove the ball and almost hit Mayor Pangandaman.
The world has gone crazy? Yes. It has dumped on the Pangandamans m ainly because of ther being in government, with Gloria and are outsiders.
This is not to say that I condone what was done to the De la Paz father and son; but, could it be that they had it coming?

  13. Lover ni April / Dec 31 2008 9:22 am

    Hpy April,

You seem to be a hired rabid dog of Nasser. Your lashes are spits of shit! you are the one that is inconsistent. just because you a neighbor of that stupid, arrogant political imp you’re now a certified defender of that rabid dog? your a rented fag.

Now lets get the issue straight, who in their right mind would beat up a 56 year old man and a 14 year old lad? only people whose mental faculites are suffering with obsessive-compulsive behaviour can do that. In short these are mentally deranged individuals whose psychiatric status is not stable because they belong to the psychotic group of mentally ill patients. Are these the types of people, the mindanoans elect? mentally deranged? people who cannot control their anger? people whose pleasure is pain? masochistic. I guess these people are inclined to kill, they have homicidal tendencies.

These are the types of people GMA places in sensitive positions. Arrogant! basing from the recollection, the secretary just watches the rampage meaning he loves or even enjoys the show of rabid force. he must be a masochist then. That confirms my diagnosis!

Nasser is a reflection of GMA likes! look at FG, Iggy and that stupid maniac son of GMA from Pampanga? I call him stupid because he does not whats he talking about sometimes or even most of the times..LOL! maniac, because when he visited Bacolod a long time ago, someone heard him drolling on the daughter of a Leonardia and even asking if he could have sex with her? that’s really preposterous? hence we could brand him, a maniac.

Going back to aPRIL, ARE YOU A LOVER OF NASSER? ITS YOUR CHOICE, the junior or the senior.hehehehehe.And maybe enjoys the maso-sadistic acrobatics you have there.

April, before you lash out at Bambee, face the mirror and ask yourself, are you the mirror?LOL! now, that would be totally insane.

The issue here is the brutality of the nassers et al, not the mindanoans but i brought out other issues not related with them, taste your own medicene april!

i agree with #17. i heard another version from a valley golf member too who was there. there was too much agression but what did really cause it..

Hello. I’m not a blogger, but this incident made me read through the myriad blogs. I’d like to forward an email I got. Let me say that I too was outraged by the post of Ms. de la Paz. Something inside me, however, told me that there are always two sides to a story, and that I must not pass judgement on any of the sides. Here’s what I received (let me say that I do not even know this guy):

    Guys,

I just came from Valley and the incident continues to be the hot topic.. Let me just give the information i got today from the caddies (who were present during the incident in the tee-house), 2 members (one of them was present in the clubhouse incident) and feedback from the boys in the bag drop area.

I guess you can say this is hear-say but from direct sources. But we were so outraged by seeing a 14 year old boy beaten up that we asked for blood. Here is their version (Not the Pamandanans but the witnesses.

    1. Who ever you ask, from the 2 members to the caddies to the bag drop boys, Mr. de la
Paz is not liked in Valley. They call him arrogant and “maangas” (what ever that means).
On the other hand, the Secretary and the Mayor (they play Valley on holidays) were
described as “Mabait”, “Magalang” and “walang ere”.

    2. On that day my regular caddy was the caddy of the Secretay and his brother was the
    caddy of the Mayor.

    3. Apparently the younger Pamandanan tried to catch-up with his brothers and father who
were playing infront of the Mr. de la Paz and family. On hole number 3 (accompanied by
a martial, the younger Pamandanan asked permission to go ahead to join the flight in
front and Mr. de la Paz (according to them) agreed.

    4. On hole number 5, the son (was it Bino) hit his drive even if the flight in
front have not yet taken their second shots. I understand he almost hit the Mayor.
According to the caddies, the Mayor just let that one pass.

    5. When Mr. de la Paz reached the Tee-house between hole No. 5 and 6, he found the
Pamandanans eating. This apparently irked Mr. de la Paz and was angry that they were
delaying the game. According to the caddies (there were at least 7 of them who
witnessed the incident) the Secretary told them to just go ahead and play through. But
Mr. de la paz (apparently) continued to verbally abuse the mayor.

    6. They did not know what words were exchanged but the saw Mr. de la Paz swing his
umbrella at the mayor. This was seen by his sibblings and the fight occured. The son
of Mr. dela paz (I guess a natural reaction of a son) came to help his father.
Unfortunately he to was hit. (amazing it may seem, but this was witnessed by at least
    7 caddies).

    7. According to the Caddies, the incident stopped when the secretary came back from the
6th tee to stop his childern. Mr. de la paz and family left for the club house and
everybody thought the incident was over.

    8. Apparently it was not. Mr. de la Paz (according to the member who was there) actually
called for back up (hence the other son who alledgedly had a baseball bat. The second
brawl thus started in the Club House.

    9. There were no bodyguards on the golf course They were outside the Valley golf club
entance. They came in only when the second brawl started in the club house.

    10. I understand the caddies etc. will be called by the Board to describe what they actually
    saw.

As I said these are information coming from people who actually know both parties and who witnessed the incidents. I’m sharing it with you guys because of the outrage we felt when we read the blog and the news paper accounts. If you believe this information coming from people who saw the incidents (they have no reason to lie), we now should realize how media (trial by publicity) can influence (even create outrage) that way we feel and think.

    We should learn from this.

The main tournament at Valley is the Tuason Cup, right? Are the Tuason’s still influential in Valley Golf? Alas! FG’s mother is a Tuason. Do you know what I am driving at? I will bet my future winnings in 2009, that we will all be disappointed with the result of this mauling incident. To retain our sanity and not get so much affected, I suggesr let us all presume that no mauling happened.

Oh! That means cover-up was ordered. The secretary will invoked executive privilege. This will be similar to “will not run for reelection”, “Hello Garci”, “Fertilizer scam”, “ZTE”, “North rail”, and now Valley Golf mauling”. Soon to come, Another order from the palace, investigate tax returns of de la Paz. Plant drugs to the teenage son.
